ELTON JOHN PERFORMED TO A SOLD OUT CROWD AT THE
FRANK ERWIN CENTER AND SET THE RECORD FOR HIGHEST GROSSING EVENT!
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Elton John captivated a sold out crowd of 16,000 on Saturday night to become the highest grossing event in the history of the Frank Erwin Center with $1,308,000. Elton John and his band performed their ‘Rocket Man –the Greatest Hits Live’ concert, which featured number one chart hits and classic album tracks from throughout Elton’s incredible five-decade career.
Frank Erwin Center Director, John Graham, said “Elton John has always been a huge hit in Austin. This past Saturday night was not only ‘right for fightin’,’ it was right for another record setting sellout performance by one of the most popular artists in the world. Our friends at C3 Presents and the Erwin Center are very pleased that Elton played our city.”
Elton John is the second sell-out at the Frank Erwin Center this year, with the first being Taylor Swift with special guests Kellie Pickler and Gloriana (3/10/10). 2009 sell-outs include “The Paisley Party Tour” with special guest Dierks Bentley and featuring Darius Rucker (1/22/09), The Killers with special guest M83 (2/3/09), Robin Williams “Weapons of Self-Destruction” (2/19/09), Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band (4/5/09), WWE presents Smackdown and ECW (4/7/09), Journey with special guest Night Ranger (9/29/09), AC/DC with special guest The Answer (11/6/09), and Jay-Z with special guests J.Cole and N.E.R.D (11/11/09).
Since 1977, the Frank Erwin Center has served Central Texans with some of the best in live entertainment. The multi-purpose facility located on The University of Texas at Austin campus, hosts a variety of events including concerts, theatrical performances, family shows and sporting events. It is also serves as the home court for the Texas men’s and women’s basketball teams.
