Press Releases December 10, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOVE IT OR LOB IT AT THE GIBSON GRAND SLAM JAM AT THE FRANK ERWIN CENTER
AUSTIN, TEXAS – The fifth annual Gibson Grand Slam Jam Tennis Shootout is coming back to the Frank Erwin Center Thursday, February 3. This smashing sporting event is more than just a star-studded tennis game, it’s a fundraiser for a good cause. The Grand Slam Jam Foundation will donate their proceeds to the Hope Foundation, a cancer research organization based in San Antonio, Texas. In the past, many tennis celebrities have participated in the Gibson Grand Slam Jam including Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and Pete Sampras to name a few. This year will be no exception! Andy Roddick, Taylor Dent and host Jim Courier will be at the Erwin Center with other special guests to be announced. Roddick has created an impressive career for himself at a very young age. He is the youngest American in history to finish a year on the Association of Tennis Professionals tour as number one and he reached the finals at Wimbledon last year. As if his accomplishments and talent weren’t enough, this Austinite was voted by People magazine as 2003’s Sexiest Athlete alive. Dent hails from Huntington Beach, California and is another young and skillful tennis player. At one time he reached number 22 in the 2004 ATP rankings and played for the American Olympic team in Athens. At the time Dent was somewhat of a dark horse, but he proved his merit when he reached the semifinal match unseeded. Jim Courier is one of the greatest American singles players in history. But even tennis fans may not know he is also a recognized musician! He will be returning to Austin to host the Grand Slam Jam.
