AUSTIN, TX – Don’t miss the family event of the year when Disney on IceSM Presents Disney/Pixar’s Monsters, Inc comes to the Frank Erwin Center! For the all-new Disney On IceSM production of Disney/Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Production Designer Robert Brill has brought to life the world of Monstropolis, complete with the Monsters, Inc., power company factory.

This is Brill’s first Disney On Ice production, not to mention his first ice show ever. He studied architecture and worked as an apprentice architect before turning to set design, and says, “I’ve always had an interest in magic and interesting characters; theater design allows me to work with both of those, and more.”

Although Brill had not worked on an ice show before this, he had no trouble learning the ropes. “Ice is like working with theater-in-the-round,” he says. For the Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. frozen stage, Brill decided to make things true to the story and as bright as possible. “I am fascinated by 1960s architecture,” says the designer.

Brill wanted to transport audiences into what he terms “a human world that just happens to be inhabited by monsters,” he says. “You see objects that look just like everyday things—but they’re ‘monster-fied,’ with monster details—like Mr. “Grosser’s” produce stand with odd-shaped and striped vegetables. We really went into a lot of detail with the look of the props, but we also wanted to make sure they would move swiftly over the ice so we could keep the feeling of a real, whole world.”

The monsters, in all their wacky glory, have their larger-than-life actions complemented by their larger-than-life set design. With Robert Brill’s vibrant, monster-sized set, Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. will thrill every member of every audience.
