Austin Wranglers

Set To Open 2008 Campaign

line

wranglersThe Austin Wranglers will celebrate the start of the team’s fifth year of Arena Football in Austin with a Saturday, March 29, arenafootball2 match-up with the Corpus Christi Sharks. The game will mark the third consecutive year that the Wranglers have opened an Arena Football season in front of the home crowd. In both 2006 and 2007, Austin opened campaigns with games against the Arena Football League’s Las Vegas Gladiators, and on both occasions the Wranglers were victorious.

wranglersThe Wranglers will look to start the team’s foray into the af2 on the right foot when they face a Corpus Christi squad that is looking to improve on its 6-10 2007 regular season record. The Sharks finished the 2007 regular season on a high note, winning four straight to close out the season, including a 57-50 road win at Stockton on the final regular season weekend. Corpus Christi will likely be led by quarterback Fran Johnson, who was well on his way to establishing himself as the Sharks’ starting quarterback last season before he was sidelined with an ankle injury. Johnson stands 6’4”, 222 lbs, and has good size and agility according to Sharks Head Coach Mike Trigg. “Fran has a strong arm and good pocket presence,” said Trigg. “He certainly can make a lot of things happen for us.”

The Austin Wranglers home-opener against the Corpus Christi Sharks is slated for a 7PM start on Saturday, March 29 at the Frank Erwin Center.
