Casting Crowns

Christian Rock Band Brings Inspiration to the Erwin Center

casting crowns

So many faithful fans have counted on the Casting Crowns, whether it be in times of celebration, self-searching or sorrow. Not your everyday rock band, the Casting Crowns lace their beautiful music with powerful messages that inspire listeners to form a greater and deeper relationship with God.

Formed in 2003, the Grammy award winning Casting Crowns are seven members strong and led by Mark Hall, the lead singer and songwriter for the band. The other band members are Juan DeVevo, Melodee DeVevo, Hector Cervantes, Chris Huffman, Megan Garrett and Andy Williams. Their music has soared to the top of multiple music charts, fueling this popular band to sell over 3 million albums to date. The band’s latest album, The Altar and the Door, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, just behind the unbeatable High School Musical 2 soundtrack. The band was the top-selling Christian artist last year, according to Billboard magazine, and was the most played artist on Christian radio for 2007.

The music they write comes from the ministry and the church. “They’re the things we’re dealing with everyday and the things we see happening in our friends’ lives,” says lead singer Mark Hall. Their latest album, The Altar and the Door, unfolded after Hall spent an afternoon reading through the MySpace pages of the kids in his youth group. He painfully discovered that there was a severe disconnect from the person that they displayed for the world to see on the internet and the truth that they embraced on Sunday mornings at church. Hall explains, “When we’re at the altar, everything makes sense. We know what we’re supposed to do. We know how we’re supposed to live. Everything’s black and white. But somewhere between the altar and the door, when we leave and go out into our lives, it all leaks out, and everything gets gray again. The Christian life is the journey between the altar and door, trying to get the things you’ve got in your head, into your hands, feet, into your life. The Altar and the Door is all about the journey - the realization on the journey, the struggles and the victory of seeing it as possible.” The album can be traced to the biblical passage Psalm 1 and is a collection of songs that boldly recognize the distance between Sunday and Monday mornings, and the wide disconnect between what is proclaimed at church and what is really going on in people’s lives.

During their fall tour, the Casting Crowns performed for over 200,000 fans in 36 cities that amounted to 20 sell outs! Do not miss the opportunity to catch the Casting Crowns live at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on April 4!
