State Basketball Championships

This past month, the Frank Erwin Center hosted the 2008 UIL Girls and Boys Basketball State Championships. The student-athletes involved displayed the level of commitment and effort to compete on the state’s biggest stage. Fans attending the tournaments were treated to exciting basketball and were witness to some of the state championships’ finer moments.

This year, Kennedale High School, Thorndale High School and Tuscola Jim Ned High School made the state tournament in both girls and boys divisions. The Canyon Lady Eagles won the 14th state championship for their school and in doing so gave their coach, Joe Lombard his 1,000th win. Basketball enthusiasts across the state were able to enjoy the action as the class 5A boys, 5A girls and 4A boys finals were televised live on FSN.
