Holiday Season Fun Headed Your Way!

The holidays are upon us and what better way to celebrate than with a fabulous line up at the Frank Erwin Center! We have an entertaining schedule that literally has something for everyone. From boxing to going green to entertainment for the wee ones, we’re sure to have an event that will get you down to the Frank Erwin Center for some holiday fun.

Politician, businessman and environmentalist Al Gore is bringing his global warming crusade to Austin when he arrives at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on October 1 to speak about his famous multimedia presentation, An Inconvenient Truth. Mr. Gore has traveled widely to spread the word on the climate crisis our world is facing and this is Austin’s chance to hear the message firsthand.

On October 17, we’re taking it up a notch as Korn will take on The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center with special guests Hellyeah, Five Finger Death Punch and Droid for the “Bi#%h We Have a Problem” tour. If you need a little sneak peek into what you might expect out of the night, check out Korn’s MySpace page as several songs are streaming live there now.

If nu-metal is not your thing, how about spending an evening at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center for a night of praise and worship with the newsboys and special guests Kutless and newworldson on October 20. With over six million of their albums sold, this hot band is at their best and their performance at The Theatre is sure to deliver.

Fall Out Boy fans won’t want to miss out as America’s favorite “Young Wild Things” hit the stage at The Theatre on October 23 with other young, wild bands Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T’s and Cute is What We Aim For. The “Young Wild Things” tour will feature songs from Fall Out Boys latest album, Infinity on High, and hit singles “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” and “Thnks fr th Mmrs” are sure to pump up the crowd so don’t miss out on the fun.

How about this for diversity? On November 3, we’re going to bring down the music stage and replace it with a ring as boxing returns to the Frank Erwin Center with Downtown Fight Night featuring Texas Welterweight Title Fight Gilbert “Boogie” Vera vs. Ray Lino “Randy” Gatica. Vera is relinquishing his current Texas super lightweight title to challenge Gatica for his Texas welterweight crown. If you happened to miss out on the fun at the Erwin Center for the Texas Title Fight in June, no worries, just be sure to get in on the action this time around.

Houston’s own Blue October will play a festival-like tour with alternative favorites Yellowcard, Shiny Toy Guns and Lovedrug at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, November 17. These guys have been rocking stages across Texas for a while and have recently been traveling farther and wider but we’re glad they’re making their way back to the great state and in particular to Austin so grab your tickets now and let’s welcome the band home with a nice and lively crowd.

And now for the wee ones…we’ve got not one, but two Playhouse Disney Live! shows for you to choose from on December 27. With shows at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. we’re hoping we can fit into your little ones schedules so they can enjoy their favorite characters from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Little Einsteins,” “Handy Manny” and “My Friends Tigger and Pooh” live and on stage.

In February, we welcome back to Austin everyone’s favorite basketball act, the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters! With their amazing basketball tricks and wizardry, the boys are once again trotting into the Frank Erwin Center for a February 7 show. This is an all new show but will still feature the traditions of an autograph session following the game, their fan-favorite mascot, Globie and good ol’ fashioned family entertainment.

And this is just the beginning folks! If you want to learn about all the other fun shows we’re hoping to bring your way, be sure to visit uterwincenter.com and register to Be the 1st to Know.
