Tool
Tour 2007

They’ve toured the globe, received Grammy awards, put out multiple hit albums, and accumulated millions of fans along the way. Now Tool is bringing their heavy metal talent to Austin for their 2007 tour this Fall with special guest Trans Am. Catch them tearing up the stage at the Frank Erwin Center on November 14!
Since their formation in 1990, Tool has succeeded at introducing “dark, vaguely underground metal to the preening pretentiousness of art rock.” The band’s members include vocals Maynard James Keenan, drummer Danny Carey, bassist Justin Chancellor, and guitarist Adam Jones. All talented musicians on their own, these guys come together to form a band that is truly unstoppable.
Tool’s vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, has a tremendous singing voice, which has even been said to be the band’s greatest asset. Keenan is also widely known for his involvement in his side project with the band, A Perfect Circle. In 2000, during one of Tool’s breaks between albums, Keenan released the album, Mer de Noms, with A Perfect Circle, which was immediately a critical and commercial success. Despite the rumors that this would cause Tool to disband, Keenan remained active in both bands, and Tool followed up by releasing their third album, Lateralus, in 2001.
In their most recent album, 10,000 Days, Tool shows the world that they aren’t slowing down at all. The American hard rock and metal landscape may have changed greatly since 2001, but Tool still knows how to appease the riff-craving masses, and it’s no surprise that the instant pleasers on 10,000 Days are the more aggressive tracks. “Vicarious” is classic Tool, centered around Jones’s winding riffs, Carey and Chancellor creating their typically massive rhythm section, with the trio perfectly offsetting Maynard James Keenan’s seething vocals. 10,000 Days was well worth the five year wait, and is not only a step forward for the band, but a “re-embracing of the epic-length rock songs found at the roots of early heavy metal.”
Tool has been an extremely powerful force in the rock and metal scene for just under two decades. This is reflected in their continuously growing fan base and inability to release an album that isn’t accepted with open arms throughout the world.
Trans Am began as a side project in 1990 but eight albums later they are still at it. Fans should look for their latest album, Sex Change, that came out in February of this year. It is said to be a return to their true form and Trans Am supporters seem to be happy about that.
