Texas Title Fight Featuring Super Lightweight Gilbert Vera
Boxing Returns to the Frank Erwin Center

A champion will be crowned when the Texas Title Fight featuring Super Lightweight Gilbert Vera, produced by Richard Lord of Punch for Pay Promotions, comes to the Frank Erwin Center Saturday, June 16. Lord, of Lord’s Gym on North Lamar, has been the center of boxing in Austin for over 20 years and has produced many world champion boxers, including Jesus “El Matador” Chavez and Anissa “The Assassin” Zamarron.
Lord graduated from The University of Texas with honors in 1978 and competed as an amateur boxer in Austin winning back-to-back Golden Glove Championships in 1979 and 1980. Throughout his boxing career, Lord trained other amateur and professional boxers and began working as a full-time trainer in 1990. Unlike most boxing gyms, Lord’s Gym welcomes non-competitors and those who want to try their hand at getting in shape with boxing including women of all fitness levels and ages.
Expect this year’s Texas Title Fight to deliver the goods with standouts like Gilbert Vera and up-and-coming fighters Parke Davidson and S’Kati Katz. All three of these fighters will be duking it out to hold on to their undefeated records. Gilbert Vera, an Austin native, will be headlining the event for the Texas Super Lightweight title. He holds an impressive 8-0-1 record, including three knockouts. Parke Davidson had a strong showing in his debut last month in Irving with a technical knockout in the third round. S’Kati Katz, the wife of the popular Katz Deli owner, Marc Katz, also made noise earlier this year when she first stepped inside the ring and recorded a third-round technical knockout in her boxing debut. Unlike Katz Deli, her motto is to always close and that is just what these three fighters hope to accomplish in the ring on Saturday, June 16.
