George Lopez

The George Lopez Show

George Lopez

George Lopez is ready to make the Erwin Center rumble with laughter to the tune of War’s “Low Rider” when he hits the stage on Saturday, June 2. Considered one of the nation’s best comedians, George Lopez draws a lot of his material from a childhood spent in financial poverty. He was born in San Fernando Valley outside of Los Angeles, California and lived with his grandmother. Lopez’s grandmother is satirized in many of his jokes along with the rest of the Latino community.

George Lopez’s poignant one-liners about growing up Latino and poor have really showcased his unique brand of observational humor. Some of his accolades include a 2004 Grammy nomination for his album Team Leader, a special guest appearance on the “Latin Kings of Comedy” and hosting the Latin Grammy Awards twice. George Lopez’s latest HBO Special, “America’s Mexican,” premiered February 24.

George Lopez does more than stand-up comedy, however. While he’s sold out 19 shows in a row, he’s also starred in movies like The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl, Naughty or Nice and the upcoming Balls of Fury. Of course he also stars in his own TV show, aptly titled “The George Lopez Show.” In his free time, George Lopez is an avid golfer. He recently hosted the PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Palm Desert and was joined by stars like Don Cheadle, Cheech Marin, Samuel L Jackson, Ray Romano, and his favorite, Clint Eastwood.

Bryan Kellen, named “Best Up and Coming Comedian in America” by The National Comedy Hall of Fame will be the opener for the evening and promises to be a hit with his physical style of humor.

Be sure to catch George Lopez with special guest Bryan Kellen when they roll into the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, June 2 at 8 p.m.
