Bring on the March Madness

Ahh…the smell of spring flowers, fresh cut grass and yeah baby, MARCH MADNESS. Say goodbye to the sleet and the rain and let’s move on to everyone’s favorite time of year, especially if you frequently find yourself at the Frank Erwin Center.
We’ll jump right into it with the Girls’ UIL Basketball Tournament being held here Thursday, March 1 through Saturday, March 3 and the Boys’ UIL Basketball Tournament that will be played Thursday, March 8 through Saturday, March 10. Each tournament will be three full days of great high school championship basketball.
The madness continues when the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regionals make their way to Austin. We’re excited to host the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships at the Frank Erwin Center March 17 & 19. Eight teams will participate and two will advance to the Sweet 16. Game times will be determined the week of the event.
March may be about sunny skies and pool time but on Wednesday, March 21, it is about what’s being done in the dark. Tyler Perry’s “What’s Done in the Dark” arrives at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on the evening of March 21 at 8 p.m. Strange things happen when there is a full moon and you find yourself in the emergency room.
We’re always happy when the dancing white stallions visit the Frank Erwin Center. The “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions are bringing all new music, choreography and routines to Austin on Friday, March 23 on their 36th anniversary tour. You don’t have to be a horse lover to enjoy the intricate maneuvers of this majestic breed.
What better way to end this month of madness than with Larry the Cable Guy who brings his trademark “redneck”-style humor and thick Southern dialect to the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, March 31. Larry will keep you laughing with bizarre stories about his fictional family and his “interesting” views on politics.
And don’t forget the football March madness! The Austin Wranglers return to action on Sunday, March 4 and will continue to entertain through early June with pre-game fireworks shows, post-game autograph sessions and two and an half hours of hard-hitting football.
As March comes to a close, the summer will start to heat up in April and May. Pick up your tickets now to see The Killers play The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on Friday, April 13 or Disney on Ice presents Disney’s Princess Wishes, a show featuring seven of Disney’s most famous princesses that will be at the Frank Erwin Center from May 10 through May 13.
The rain has gone and the blue skies are back so no excuses. You need to make your way to the Erwin Center soon. We’ll be waiting with a glass of lemonade in hand!
