Martina McBride

Small Town Success

Martina McBride

The Frank Erwin Center will get a taste of some real country when Grammy-nominated Martina McBride arrives Saturday, July 14. The four-time Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year has come a long way since singing for her father’s garage band when she was 7.

Born in Sharon, Kansas, population 210, Martina McBride, born Martina Schiff, had the classic small town upbringing. Every Saturday night, her family would perform at weddings and dances. Martina was naturally the vocal inspiration, with her father leading on guitar, her mother running the soundboard and her brother Marty playing guitar and steel.

After graduating high school with only nine others, Martina married sound engineer John McBride and they found their way to Nashville in 1990 where they both landed jobs touring with Garth Brooks – Martina sold t-shirts. Martina eventually got a record contract with RCA and launched her debut album The Time Has Come. Success has followed her ever since.

Join Martina McBride for the "Waking Up Laughing Tour" with special guest Little Big Town at the Frank Erwin Center this Honky Tonk summer.
