A Musical Night with Martina McBride

You will be waking up laughing after a fun, music-filled night at the Frank Erwin Center with Martina McBride. Yes, that is right! Martina McBride will be singing her way into the Frank Erwin Center Saturday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m.! Martina McBride was born Martina Mariea Schiff on July 29, 1966 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She is an American Grammy nominated country music singer and a sensational producer and writer. While racking up 16 million in sales and 22 top 10 singles, Martina continues to scale new artistic heights. McBride discovered country music through her father, who led a local band called the Schifters. By her teen years, she was singing and playing keyboards with the Schifters, and after high school she gigged around Kansas with several different bands. She married soundman John McBride, and in 1990 the couple moved to Nashville where they currently reside.

On tour Martina will be the sharing the tunes on her latest album Waking up Laughing which she produced over an eight-month period. Most music artists are not afforded such a lengthy timetable to produce a record, but being able to do so is a luxury McBride enjoys most about having her own studio. “I’ve never been one of those people who could make a record in two or three weeks. I don’t know why, but I really have to live with things. I like to think about it, listen to it in the car, just sort of let the ideas come to me rather than trying to get it done quickly,” states Martina.

McBride will be accompanied by the breakthrough band, Little Big Town. Little Big Town is the vocal quartet with members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook. The foursome has gained much recognition in 2006 for their album, The Road to Here. The record was certified platinum and contains their big hits, “Boondocks,” “As Good As Gone,” and new single, “A Little More You.” They’ll team up with Martina McBride to give the audience at the Frank Erwin Center a taste of real country.

“Every time I hear this music, it feels like coming home,” says Martina. “What I love about these songs is that they are like conversations. These lyrics are so simple, yet so eloquent. It’s just honest. I have a comfort level with this music and a respect for it that is deep.”

Martina McBride is a true artist in every sense of the word. Releasing music that is a reflection of her inner self and constantly trying to improve and hone her craft has made her one of the most popular and promising performers in country music today. “I love to go in and create,” she says. “To do the same thing album after album would be boring. I’m still growing, and I want my music to grow, too.”
