All About Elmo

Sesame Street Live "Elmo Makes Music"

Sesame Street has been capturing the imaginations of children and parents alike with its beloved Muppet characters, and this year is no exception. Elmo will be bringing Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Zoe, Grover, and the rest of his friends to the Frank Erwin Center February 15-18. Don’t miss your chance to tap your feet and sing along with your children as Sesame Street Live presents “Elmo Makes Music!”

This year’s star Elmo is a three and a half year old furry red monster with googly eyes and an orange nose. He currently hosts a segment on “Sesame Street”, titled Elmo’s World. He is accompanied by his goldfish Dorothy, Mr. Noodle, and Mr. Noodle’s Brother Mr. Noodle.
“Sesame Street” staff writer Nancy Sans describes Elmo’s origins: “There was this extra red puppet lying around and the cast would pick him up sometimes and try to create a personality, but nothing seemed to materialize. One day in 1984, Kevin Clash, a talented puppeteer, raised him up and brought energy and life into Elmo.”

Elmo has lived quite an exciting life. He brought joy to viewers across the country as a regular guest on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” from 1996 - 2002. In 1999 Elmo was featured in his first ever full-length motion picture called Elmo in Grouchland. It was a huge success among critics, moms, and kids alike.
In his spare time Elmo is a political activist. He is the only Muppet ever to testify before the U.S. Congress. At the request and with the assistance of Rep. Duke Cunningham, Elmo testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education in April 2002, urging support for increased funding in music education.

As you can see, this year’s show holds a special place in Elmo’s heart. Children will learn that music can be made in many different ways. What really matters is that you share it with others!
