Celtic Woman

A New Journey For You

Celtic Woman is a musical ensemble comprised of five Irish female artists: vocalists Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lynn Hilary and Lisa Kelly, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt. Created by composer and musical director David Downes and Executive Producer Dave Kavanagh in 2004, Celtic Woman’s story has, from the very beginning, been one of overwhelming success. Between their self-titled debut, their Christmas CD, A Christmas Celebration, and their most recent album, A New Journey, Celtic Woman has held the number one position on the Billboard World Music Charts for a record-breaking 95 consecutive weeks. Their CDs and DVDs have gone platinum in the US and South Africa, and gold as far away as Australia and Japan.

The group, which was a big hit overseas, had little recognition in the United States until the recording of a performance at The Helix in Dublin, Ireland in front of a sold-out audience for PBS aired in 2005. Within weeks of the PBS airing, the group gained much respect and led to their debut album, Celtic Woman, landing at number one on Billboard’s World Music chart. Many say that the majority of the group’s success in America has been credited to the extensive PBS publicity throughout 2005. The live performance at The Helix was also released on DVD along with the studio album.

One of the original members of Celtic Woman, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, is taking an extended break from the group in order to pursue the recording of a solo album. This was recently announced in August. Filling her place will be newcomer Lynn Hilary, who made her first appearance with the group in October of this year at a show in Florida.

A New Journey, which incorporates music from their most recent album and their self-titled hit, both labeled platinum, is a show that is perfectly reflective of composer David Downes’s musical vision. As the creator of the music, he does not take all of the credit for himself. He believes that the true talent lies within the Celtic Women themselves, stating that, “They are the songs, in many cases, and are the reason for any Celtic Woman music to happen. Their voices and music bring that sound together, bring it to life.” The show is over two hours of music that “both expands upon and refines the Celtic Woman sound.”

Come experience an exquisite night with a repertoire of an unforgettable collection of contemporary hits performed by a group of talented Irish singers who have proved their talent throughout the years.
