Trans-Siberian Orchestra
'Tis the Season for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Get ready to experience the wonderful talent of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, as they delightfully enrich the Frank Erwin Center with beautiful music on December, 26! Given that this rock opera is well-known all over the country, this show is sure to be spectacular and one that you will talk about for months after the performance.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra was created in 1996 by Paul O’Neil. O’Neil was a writer and a producer for many rock groups, but always wanted to produce a show with greater emotional impact. Born in New York, O’Neil shaped his passion for music around the sounds that he was used to while growing up; from Queen to classical. O’Neil played with many rock bands and then took his first step toward success when he became the guitarist in the “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Hair” touring productions. After this, many doors opened for O’Neil and he began working with Leber-Krebs Inc. who was legendary for aiding the careers of Aerosmith,
AC/DC, Def Leppard, The Scorpions and Michael Bolton, just to name a few. O’Neil was the biggest rock promoter in Japan for Madonna and Sting as well as Bon Jovi and Whitesnake. After these wonderful accomplishments, he began to create his dream – a rock opera; Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
O’Neil went to some old friends, Robert Kinkel and Jon Oliva, to begin writing new, emotional music. Kinkel, who excels in keyboard and orchestrations, is known for producing music for jingles, for MTV, and for Nickelodeon’s “Clarissa Explains it All.” He helped pioneer a technique that manipulates pure sound in a musical way. Jon Oliva is a self taught multi-instrumentalist who works with keyboards, guitar, drums, bass, violin and cello. He is known from his rock band, Savatage, a band that established itself on the cutting edge of the rock world.
Together, these three wanted to write melodies that did not need words, and words that were so powerful they did not need music. What they found, was when you put these two elements together, the results were overwhelming. After O’Neil realized how to accomplish this task, he began taking his work to even greater heights by incorporating the music within the context of a story. This, says O’Neil, will “give it a third dimension that would make that additional emotional impact possible.” Hence, Paul O’Neil’s rock operas were born!
Seeing that the holidays are a very pleasant time overflowing with emotion, it seems fitting that Trans-Siberian Orchestra should delight us with their presence on the day after Christmas. With their music being based around Christmas carols, it is one way to lengthen your holiday and celebrate more of the miracle with your family. All of these wonderful holiday tunes are embedded within a Christmas story. Some of their famous stories are “Christmas Eve,” “The Christmas Attic,” “Beethoven’s Last Night,” “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” “The Lost Christmas Eve” and “The Christmas Trilogy.” All of these beautiful stories share different meanings and morals of the holiday. These tellings of joy and good deeds, along with the heart-warming sounds of the instruments and vocalists, can bring a tear to your eye and warmth to your heart.
As stated in the Richmond Times, the “TSO show is simply magical!” In Salt Lake City, Utah, their Deseret News stated that “TSO rocks the house with Yule-time jams!” And, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the SE Missourian says, “TSO rocks a revved-up Christmas show!” These are only a few of the wonderful comments made on Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s performance. It is a must see concert that you will have to enjoy for yourself in order to come up with your own catchy phrase of praise.
