Rock it out with the newsboys

Come out and enjoy the newsboys as they rock out their Christian souls on the “GO” tour at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday, October 20!
The band originally formed in Australia in 1985 as The News, but they have since gone through a name change and several band members to eventually arrive as one of the most popular and best selling Christian music bands to date. In 1992, the band released their first album, Not Ashamed, and gained fame in the Christian music scene. In 1994, the band released their fifth album, Going Public. It was their first smash success and a defining moment for the group winning them a Dove Award for “Rock Album of the Year.”
From humble beginnings in the church basements and pubs of Australia, to sold-out arenas, the newsboys have achieved phenomenal success in their near two decades together. The newsboys grasped secular music’s alternative revolution in the early ‘90s and re-imaged themselves with good results. The multi-million selling group has spent the last decade developing an immense and dedicated following, perfecting their talent as pop craftsmen and working hard at becoming one of the best bands to date. “If you aren’t making music from the right place, then it won’t be authentic, people will not connect with it, and your record will be sitting on a shelf,” lead vocalist Peter Furler explains. “On the other hand, if you write from that place of true passion, without trying to make something commercial or forced, then the result will be natural. People will be drawn to it.”
Not only have the newsboys strived to perfect their music, but in doing so, they have perfected themselves into a positive image and role model for their fans. “It seems to me there are three types of believers in this world,” Furler concludes. “There is the judgmental guy who spends most of his energy pointing out what is wrong around him and doing very little about it. There is the backslidden guy, who wallows in his own failures. Then there is the real guy, who just tries to love other people and be about the kingdom more than anything else. I want to be the third guy. I want to be known for loving others of different backgrounds and different beliefs no matter the cost.”
The newsboys will be touring with Oregon-based fivesome Kutless, and will introduce a new Canadian soul, reggae and gospel band, newworldson.
