Rascal Flatts
Rise to the Top

Columbus, Ohio, 1992 – Two young cousins, barely in their twenties, discover that they have more in common than family ties; they share a passion for music that was nurtured by a lifetime of parents, aunts and uncles including the boys in family jam sessions. Fast forward to 2000 – Cousins Gary LeVox (lead vocalist) and Jay DeMarcus (bassist), along with Joe Don Rooney (electric guitarist) release their first album, the self-titled Rascal Flatts, which shoots straight to No. 3 on the country Billboard charts.
Of course the rise to the top was not exactly painless. Jay was the first to break away from the comfort of family and a stable job in Columbus to chase down his dreams of becoming a country music star. He went straight to Nashville without looking back and landed a record deal with a Christian group known as East to West. It took him five years, but he finally convinced cousin Gary to quit his job in Columbus and join him in Nashville. Jay met Joe Don first in Chely Wright’s band, and soon invited him to his and Gary’s weekly gigs at a club in Printer’s Alley. Sparks flew, and Rascal Flatts was born.
The group has released four albums, experiencing wild success with each debut. Most recently, Rascal Flatts accepted a Grammy award for Best Country Song (“Bless This Open Road”). The trio has, in a matter of years, risen to the top of the ever-elusive mecca of country music, and there is no turning back. Enjoy this phenomenal band, along with special guests Gary Allan and Eric Church when they stop by the Erwin Center on Thursday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m!
