Carlos Mencia

Carlos Mencia: Making PC "un-PC"

Carlos Mencia

What is it about Carlos Mencia’s comedy that makes it so popular? He is politically incorrect, uses ethnic stereotypes, and mercilessly mocks hypocritical behavior and what he considers “stupid people.” But the more he does so, the more people want to be included in the assault.

“Political correctness is a form of racism,” says the 38-year-old comic, “I just like obliterating what people think is right and wrong.”

It is this blunt, cut-through-the-bull approach that has given Carlos Mencia success through his 20-year comedic career and led to the creation of his own show on Comedy Central, “The Mind of Mencia.” Scheduled to debut after “Chappelle’s Show,” “The Mind of Mencia” held its own and gained instant popularity, doubling its viewing in the first season alone. Much to the audience’s delight, no one escapes the barrage: whites, blacks, Latinos, Middle Easterners, Indians, gays, women, rappers, dictators, and pimps- everyone’s fair game.

Mencia has begun his “Carlos Mencia Punisher Tour” and will bring his antics to The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on Friday, October 20 at 7 p.m. If you need to laugh, or just like to laugh, come see his show; because, according to the comedian himself, “If you ain’t laughin’, you ain’t livin’.”
