Blue Man Group Keeps Austin Weird

Blue Man Group

Continually pushing the boundaries of the live concert experience, Blue Man Group will keep Austin weird this fall with their newest touring show, HOW TO BE A MEGASTAR TOUR 2.0, coming to the Frank Erwin Center on October 15.

With their HOW TO BE A MEGASTAR TOUR 2.0, Blue Man Group embraces the rules, rituals and raw excitement of that most primal of group experiences: the arena rock concert! This full production tour features state-of-the-art concert technology and brings the Blue Man Group experience to arenas and select theaters across the nation.

Blue Man Group, the brainchild of friends Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton in the 1980s while the three men lived in New York City, has become a cultural phenomenon throughout the nation and beyond. The men would perform on the streets of New York City in what has become traditional Blue Man regalia: blue paint, latex bald caps and black clothes. Blue Man Group’s theatrical act has soared to extremely successful heights since its beginnings in the 80s. The act now includes rock music (heavy on the percussion), bazaar stage props, lots of audience participation (audience members close to the stage are asked to wear ponchos so their clothes won’t be ruined with stray substances being sprayed, splattered or thrown from the stage) and intricate lighting.

Said Executive Tour Producer Paul J. Emery, III of Emery Entertainment, “After downloading a tongue-in-cheek ‘how-to’ manual on becoming a rock star, Blue Man Group is joined by an eight-piece band and subsequently takes us through, step-by-step and song-by-song, every head-bobbing, fist-pumping moment of a real concert.”

Emery added, “The result is a uniquely clever interactive show that delivers hypnotic entertainment for all ages!”

HOW TO BE A MEGASTAR TOUR 2.0 is produced by St. Louis-based Emery Entertainment along with Los Angeles-based Pacific Arts Entertainment and initially kicks off with 42 cities through 2006 and continues in the first quarter of 2007.
