Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly

A Soulful Sound

Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly

For 30 years, Frankie Beverly and Maze have made melodically soulful music that continues to resonate through the US and the United Kingdom as influential and inspiring. On November 18, we invite you to see for yourself the incredible talent of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly with special guest
K-Ci & JoJo at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center!

“We’ve made it this far because we love and respect ourselves and our fans. But, most importantly, we believe in what we do,” says Frankie. And for good reason; Frankie Beverly, a Philadelphia native, has been in the music business since the ripe old age of 12. His career was jumpstarted when he joined a Philly doo wop group known as the Silhouettes and went on tour with them in 1959. Following his early introduction into the world of music, Beverly founded two separate short-lived bands: the Blenders and the Butlers.

It wasn’t until 1970 that Beverly created the band now known as Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly. The band back then was known as Raw Soul. After playing and recording for several years under that name, Beverly had the good fortune of catching the attention of his most respected idol, Marvin Gaye. The late soul superstar was so impressed with the band’s sound that he helped them land a major record deal with Capitol in 1976. The one thing he didn’t like was the band’s name. They officially became Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly the same year.

The band’s first album on the Capitol label went gold and earned them an incredibly devoted fan base. Since then, the band has put out 11 albums, several of which also received gold status. Frankie Beverly and Maze have also earned the reputation of having one of the best live acts in American soul music.

K-Ci and JoJo, best known for their No. 1 hit “All My Life,” will open up the show.
