Frank Erwin Center 30th Anniversary
Thirty and Loving It!

Next November, the Frank Erwin Center is celebrating the big 3-0! We decided to do it up right with an entire year-long celebration, kicking off the party this month. For the next 12 months, we will highlight the Erwin Center’s past performers and memorable moments; the path we’ve taken in becoming Austin’s premier entertainment venue; our presence as a cultural center for the capital city; and of course the bright future that awaits us!
In its 30 years as The University of Texas’ very own arena, the Frank Erwin Center has continued to serve as Austin’s friendly home to the best entertainment available, from Texas Men’s and Women’s Basketball to legendary comedians and musicians from around the world. The Erwin Center, affectionately known as the “drum” because of its unique circular shape, has been witness to Austin’s unforgettable moments since its construction in 1977. It’s seen on its stage some of the biggest bands in the world: Madonna, Bob Dylan, U2, Ray Charles and even Liberace and Pavarotti. It’s welcomed former President Clinton and President Bush and said goodbye to Governor Ann Richards. Throughout its lifetime, the Erwin Center has opened its doors to more than 22 million people.
The staff here at the Erwin Center celebrates not only 30 years of excellence, but the promise to be here for another 30 years, and 30 more after that. We are proud to work in a place that holds a history in this incredible town, a place that has become a landmark of Austin culture. It is a part of the University. It is situated deep in the heart of Austin and deep in the heart of every person who has seen their favorite musician or heard their favorite song, witnessed history in the making or made history by being here.
We invite you, our patrons from 30 years ago to today, to celebrate this special anniversary with us. Keep up to date on our activities through each month’s Applause, where we will be announcing month by month our plans to commemorate the Frank Erwin Center’s long-time citizenship in Austin. This month, we unveil the Erwin Center’s 30th Anniversary logo. We hope you enjoy! |
