Where do you go when you’ve done it all? Gone through rap, country, and rock; performed for troops; made cameos in music videos and had Bette Midler sing your hard rock song? If you are Kid Rock, you push your new album Live Trucker into Austin for a rockin’ show at The Theatre at The Frank Erwin Center Thursday, May 4 at 8PM!!
Coming up to his 17th year in the business, Kid Rock has a lot to brag about these days after a bit of a rough start. The release of his first album back in 1989, Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast, was met with little excitement from the public and a lot of criticism about its crude nature. Despite this minor set back, Rock released two more albums in the next few years, The Polyfuze Method in 1993 and Early Morning Stoned Pimp in 1996.
In 1998 Rock signed with Atlantic Records and released Devil Without a Cause. With the album going platinum 11 times in the U.S, it was obvious, Kid Rock had officially arrived. Two years later The History of Rock was released which consisted mostly of remixed or re-recorded material from his previous recordings. Not to forget “American Bad Ass,” which was the first single and the only new track on the album.
In 2001, Kid Rock gave the public a more country side of himself. Cocky was released with mixed feelings from the public who had become accustomed to Rock’s harder than rock style. He seemed to feel it was time to broaden his horizons by connecting with some much loved country roots. He performed a duet with Sheryl Crow, “Picture,” performed “Luchenbach, Texas” on the Waylon Jennings tribute album and has appeared in several Gretchen Wilson videos including “Red Neck Woman” and “All Jacked Up.”
With the release of his self-titled album in 2003 Rock went even more into country life, even recording a cover of “Feel Like Makin’ Love” which came out as the first single for the album.
On February 28, 2006 Rock released his first live album, Live Trucker, a compilation of songs collected from several different shows at venues in and around his native Detroit, Michigan. Live Trucker features performances from former Twisted Brown Trucker Band members, Uncle Kracker and the late Joe C. The album cover pays tribute to Bob Seger by replicating the cover of his album “Live Bullet” which was released in 1976 when Rock was just 5 years old.
In discussing his newest album Rock says a live album has “got to be something that takes you a different place than the original songs that you really liked.” Though he doubts the ability of others to perform to par, he is confident that he and The Twisted Brown Trucker Band can blow everyone away. “We’re a live band,” Rock says. “That’s how we’ve done everything and gotten everything. We’ve gone out and proven ourselves on the road, so it would make sense we’d put out a live record.”
Just because he is a star don’t think for a second that Rock is just a ‘show’ artist. If you check his albums you can see that he is credited for more than just vocals but also guitar, bass, percussion, mellotron, keyboard, slide guitar, producing and yes, even banjo. So get ready to rock hard with a hard rocker when he and his band arrive on May 4!
