Kenny
Chesney
March 31

The Road and the
Radio Treating Chesney Well
With
the first date of his current tour selling out in FOUR
MINUTES FLAT and The Road and the Radio going double
platinum, Kenny Chesney has an amazing year to look forward
to, especially when he hits the Frank Erwin Center on
March 31. Austin will be sure to show this “Island
Boy” a good time and keep him coming back for more!!
Before he was an island boy, he was a down-home country
boy from Luttrell, Tennessee attending the University
of Tennessee with National Football League (NFL) star
Peyton Manning. The two became good friends despite Chesney’s
self professed title of “slowest receiver ever.” Even
though he didn’t excel at football, college was
really when Chesney’s music status began to surface
and rise. After playing some local bars for a few years,
he was finally signed by RCA’s Joe Galante in 1995.
With his first double platinum certified album, Everywhere
We Go (1999), Chesney was well on his way to fame. In
2000 he was inadvertently thrust into the spotlight when
he and buddy Tim McGraw hopped a police horse—with
or without permission depending on who you talk to. Charges
were dropped but the publicity was priceless.
He soon released his Greatest Hits (2001) album bringing
back the best of Chesney to his growing number of fans.
It was no surprise in 2002 when No Shoes, No Shirt,
No Problems sold 3 million copies and established Chesney
as a future country music legend. After that, the heartfelt
crooning and sultry lyrics fans love just kept coming,
as seen in 2004’s When the Sun Goes Down and in
2005’s Be As You Are: Songs From an Old Blue
Chair.
Accompanying Chesney on his whirl-wind tour will be Dierks
Bentley and rising stars Sugarland (named for the small
town just south of Houston). Bentley will be promoting
his newest release Modern Day Drifter during his second
appearance at the Erwin Center (the first was with George
Strait in January 2005). Sugarland will perform songs
off their double platinum album Twice the Speed of
Life.
