Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance

January 6

Irish Dancers, Fast On Their Feet

On January 6, Austin audiences will experience the extravaganza that has put Irish dancing into the global spotlight and created a wave of Celtic dance mania when Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance takes the stage at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center.

This world-renown theatrical performance uses an eclectic blend of dance styles that have been practiced for over 2,000 years. Combined with 1,200 colorful costumes, elaborate sets, dramatic music, state-of-the-art staging and lighting, and over 40 Irish dancers, the show is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Michael Flatley, the American-born dance pioneer who originated the role of the Lord, serves as the artistic director and oversees all aspects of production. After spending much of his childhood in Ireland, he learned about the traditional form of Celtic dance. But Celtic dancing is more than just an acquired passion, as both Flatley’s mother and grandmother were Irish dance champions.

At the age of 35, Flatley not only devised, wrote, and produced the show, but is also responsible for the spectacular and stunning choreography. The show has become the world’s highest grossing dance show since its debut performance at Point Theatre in Dublin 1996.
