Harlem Globetrotters

February 9

America's Oldest Sports Entertainment Team Making News!

The Globetrotters may be looking at their 80th year, but they’re still making news! With all the advancements made in the gaming industry, it was only a matter of time before the Globetrotters showed up in a video game. The Globetrotters have signed a five-year development contract with New Jersey based Destination Software (Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf, Sim City 2000, Pac Man World 2). The two organizations are collaborating on a future video game, set for release late 2006, featuring the Globetrotters unique brand of athletics and entertainment.

In other Globetrotter news, one of the team’s all-time leading alumni was honored by the men in red, white and blue last month. LeMoyne-Owen College Men’s Basketball Coach David “Smokey” Gaines was inducted into the team’s LEGENDS award ring, making him only the 24th person in the Globetrotter’s 80-year history to receive this award. Gaines is the all-time scoring leader at LeMoyne-Owen College, and now coaches men’s basketball and serves as athletic director of his alma mater.

Right before the New Year, the Globetrotters signed on three new players, including forward Jefferson Sobral (player for Brazil’s National Team), guard Scooter McFadgon (University of Tennessee) and point guard Michael Lee (University of Kansas).
