The Fray

Into The Fray

The Fray

It seems that fans cannot get enough of The Fray, and Austin is no exception. Fortunately, Austin is one of just a few final stops before the band heads overseas to satisfy hungry fans abroad. Local fans will get their share of this Platinum-selling band when The Fray plays at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on January 29!

Based in Denver, The Fray was formed in 2002 by schoolmates Isaac Slade (lead vocals and piano), and Joe King (guitar and vocals). They later added Dave Welsh (guitar) and Ben Wysocki (drums and former band mate of Slade). The band’s name was inspired by the members’ tendency to battle it out over song composition, and eventually the name stuck. So did their style – a sophisticated, emotional blend of piano, acoustic and electric guitars and vocals – which critics have compared to that of Coldplay.

The Fray earned a loyal following through impressive area gigs and the support of local radio. Their popularity grew quickly as their first demo recordings became local radio favorites, and the band was voted Best New Band by Denver’s Westword Magazine. This led to a record deal with Epic Records in 2004.

Their popularity has since soared. They’ve had appearances on “The Tonight Show” and “The Late Show with David Letterman,” as well as features on “Scrubs,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “What About Brian,” “NCIS,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Bones.” The band released their debut album, How to Save a Life, in 2005. Its first single, “Over My Head (Cable Car),” soared to No. 8 on the Hot 100 chart, while its second single, “How to Save a Life,” surpassed it to No. 3. Their debut album has since gone Platinum, selling more than 1.5 million copies in the United States.

If the past few years of whirlwind success are any indication for the future of this band, 2007 will be a wildly successful year for The Fray. Start your year off right with an unforgettable performance by The Fray at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on January 29!
