Comedy
in the Fast Lane
April 7

What do THEY have to say about
their Comedy?
Comedians
Katt Williams, J. Anthony Brown, Juan Villareal and Gary
Owen all know what life is like in the hot lights of
fame. Each of these men have spent a good chunk of their
lives on stage in front of crowds. Don’t miss your
opportunity to catch these funnymen when they roll into
the Frank Erwin Center on April 7 at 9pm!
“
Stand up is my actual love….I think it’s
the freest form of experience you can have,” says
Katt Williams. As the son of a former Black Panther,
Williams first started performing at the age of 8 when
he took the NAACP conference stage with his soon to be
famous style. He calls his stand-up “audience friendly.
There’s no cursing, but some controversy. It’s
not for the sake of being controversial though.”
“
In my act, I ride the spectrum of funny,” says
J. Anthony Brown. Never one to be pinned down Brown keeps
the audience on their toes anyway he can. “I’ll
sing, incorporate skits and vignettes, do costume changes,
and still tell you a joke,” he laughs. Brown rides
the spectrum of talent too. Once a tailor; then a comedy
writer for Arsenio Hall; now world-class comedian, Brown
has done it all and don’t think that stops him
in anyway!
As San Diego’s professed “Funniest Black
Comedian in San Diego,” Gary Owen knows his business
and likes to deliver all he can to his audience. Getting
his start in the ‘hood’ of San Diego, Owen
took what he saw and ran with it to the bright lights
of stardom. “That’s when I started addressing
the different black and white issues… interracial
dating and social issues. I like to deal with issues
white guys aren’t supposed to talk about.” He
claims it’s his honesty that gets his audience, “I
don’t know what a ‘boo’ (a term of
affection) is. And they’d laugh because I was so
honest about it.”
Juan Villareal has a long list of performers calling
his name to perform with him: George Lopez, Jamie Foxx,
Cedric the Entertainer, etc. This Texas boy has been
on BET’s Comic View and Galavision’s Que
Loco.
