The 2005 Rose Bowl Championship Series game will be spoken of as a landmark event for years to come. This past New Year’s Day, two powerhouse football programs - the Michigan Wolverines and Texas Longhorns - faced each other in Pasadena, California. The meeting was the first between the two schools and it turned out to be one for the ages. The Longhorns made a rare appearance, representing the Big 12 Conference in the Rose Bowl, adding hype to the confrontation.
The game went back and forth in the first two quarters, with neither team able to grab control of the match-up. At halftime with the game tied at 14-14 the momentum seemed neutralized. The Wolverines took what appeared to be a commanding 10-point lead with only 10 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. The Longhorns battled back, led by the remarkable performance of quarterback Vince Young, and put themselves into position for the late-game drama that took place. Young was involved in all five touchdowns scored while accumulating 192 yards rushing and 180 yards passing.
Mangum’s last minute 37-yard field goal was a fitting cap to an incredible season for the Longhorns. If you’re a Longhorn fan, you’ll want to be able to see their incredible victory over the Wolverines anytime you want.
