Dave Chappelle

November 13

Ha-WHAT? Dave Chappelle’s Coming to the Frank Erwin Center?
O-Kaaaay!

After an indefinite ‘break’ from his show, Dave Chappelle is going on a nationwide tour. Austin fans of the widely popular Chappelle’s Show may not be able to see their favorite comedian toe the line on Comedy Central this year, but they CAN see him perform live at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center November 13! Tickets are on sale now!

Dave Chappelle got into comedy at an early age and immediately began to demonstrate his immense talent. Growing up in Washington D.C., Chappelle started going to gigs at the age of fourteen, often needing his mother to accompany him as a chaperone. Early in his career it became obvious that his talents went beyond the stage and he began appearing in films. He took a staring role in Half Baked (1998), a film he co-wrote, after having appeared in a number of other popular flicks. Despite his amazing success in movies, the Chappelle we know really took off once he moved to TV. He appeared in numerous television specials including Comic Relief VI, Crank Yankers and his own HBO hour-long special Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth. These successes led him to his own stand-up series on Comedy Central, appropriately titled Chappelle’s Show. The show ran for only two seasons but it took pop-culture by storm and has become a legend in comedy.

With his unique and fearless approach to comedy, no subject is taboo. Having been compared to other edgy comedians, such as Richard Pryor, celebrities have reason to be nervous as nobody is spared Chappelle’s wicked humor and hilarious impersonations. From Rick James to R. Kelly to President Bush—Chappelle has parodied the rich, famous or powerful in front of his legions of viewers.

After having mastered TV and film, Chappelle is going back to what earned him so much recognition in the first place - standup.
