Look Who’s Coming...

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Wed.-Sun., February 9-13)
Just in time for Valentines Day! Here comes the heart-pounding musical Little Shop of Horrors with an all-new production. It’s everybody’s favorite tale of boy-meets-plant, plant-eats-world that recently took NYC by storm. Little Shop of Horrors is a hilarious musical masterpiece that promises a few surprises!

Circus Maximus (Wednesday, February 16 at 8PM)
Composer John Corigliano won a Pulitzer Price for his Symphony No. 2 and an Academy Award for The Red Violin. Now comes the world premiere of Corigliano’s new wind symphony Circus Maximus (Symphony No. 3 for large wind ensemble) performed by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jerry Junkin. Don’t miss the first performance of this masterpiece before it goes to Carnegie Hall.

Pacifica Quartet (Thursday, February 17 at 8PM)
“There’s no point in predicting the future greatness for the young Pacifica Quartet. That future has arrived!” — Los Angeles Times. The UT Performing Arts Center presents one of today’s most dynamic and exciting string quartets. The New York Times raves, “The quartet is “brilliant” and “astounding!”

Peru Negro (Friday, February 18 at 8PM)
This legendary Afro-Peruvian music and dance ensemble is considered a “Peruvian Treasure.” Experience the dazzling dances, colorful costumes and electrifying rhythms originated in the slave trade of colonial Peru and passed down through generations. Peru Negro will also lead a FREE master class on dance and percussion at the new George Washington Carver Museum & Cultural Center. For information call 471-6376.

Ensemble Kaboul and Mahwash (Friday, February 25 at 8PM)
The Taliban nearly destroyed their music but the traditional sounds of Afghanistan live on with the award-winning Ensemble Kaboul and Mahwash. These master musicians and Afghan singing sensation perform a multi-ethnic blend of Indian, Persian and Arabic music woven together in a traditional Afghan sound that was almost lost forever.

MARIACHI VARGAS (Saturday, March 5 at 7:30PM)
In 1897, to the south of Jalisco, Mexico, in a small city called Tecalitlan, Mariachi Vargas was born. Now five generations later, the 12-member ensemble has earned the title “El Mejor Mariachi Del Mundo” (The Best Mariachi in the World). Experience Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, a Mexican musical extravaganza!
