Texas Tips
off 100th Season of Basketball

Welcome to the 100th season of intercollegiate
basketball at The University of Texas. UT and H-E-B have
joined forces in a year-long promotional plan to “Salute
100 Years of Texas Basketball”.
“We have appreciated H-E-B’s
strong support of Texas Athletics over the years,” said
UT Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds. “We know this
is going to be an exciting and historic season and we are
proud to have H-E-B associated with us.”
Texas fans should visit www.TexasSports.com
for a season-long tribute to UT Basketball. On Sunday,
November 13, two days prior to Texas’ season opener
against Southern in the Guardians Classic, UT’s official
Athletics Web site began its season-long countdown of the
Top 100 Moments in Texas Basketball, as determined by a
panel in the UT Athletics Media Relations office. A new
moment will be posted on the Web site every few days throughout
the season. The countdown will conclude with Moment Number
1, which will be announced on Saturday, March 4, the day
prior to UT’s regular season finale against Oklahoma.
A panel in the UT Athletics Media Relations
office has also selected an “All-Decade Team” of
five players for each of the following time periods: 1906-1919,
1920-29, 1930-39, 1940-49, 1950-59, 1960-69, 1970-79, 1980-89,
1990-99 and 2000-05. Beginning January 5, two days prior
to Texas’ Big 12 Conference opener against Colorado,
www.TexasSports.com will announce the “1906-1919
All-Decade Team”. Every few days, the next “All-Decade
Team” will be posted on the Web site. The final “All-Decade
Team”, which will recognize the top Texas players
from 2000-2005, will be announced on Sunday, January 29.
UT Athletics and H-E-B will then team
together to allow fans to select the five-player “All-Time
Texas Basketball Team”. Beginning on Monday, January
30 and running throughout the month of February, fans can
cast their votes for one center, two forwards and two guards
to determine the All-Time Team.
Fans will be able to vote either online
at www.TexasSports.com and www.heb.com or in select H-E-B
stores in the Austin area. The “All-Time Texas Basketball
Team” will be unveiled during UT’s regular-season
finale on March 5 against Oklahoma. In addition, H-E-B
plans to establish an H-E-B Centennial Scholarship through
the Longhorn Foundation and Longhorn Legacy athletics development
area.
H-E-B is completing its own centennial
celebration in November. To commemorate this milestone,
the company is hosting a year-long celebration that includes
parties, gifts and many surprises as H-E-B says “thank
you” to the people and communities that have made
H-E-B a success. To reinforce H-E-B’s commitment
to the communities that it serves, H-E-B has implemented
a series of special initiatives focusing on hunger relief
and prevention, education and the environment during its
100th year.
