A Series of Fortunate Events
Our calendar of events this month could keep you busy almost every weekend in April. We have an urban theatre performance, an equestrian exposition, a Christian rock concert, a band extravaganza AND two arena football games. As you can imagine, many of the staff here work very hard as the face of the Erwin Center changes dramatically from day to day and week to week. They are the quick change artists we have to thank for giving our venue its ever-changing atmosphere. Our facility can be an intimate theatre for a play, a basketball court, a football field, a concert arena or a three-ring circus.
At the beginning of April, the Erwin Center will start out as an indoor football arena when the Austin Wranglers play against the New Orleans Voodoo on the 1st. Immediately after it will transform into the Theatre for Tyler Perry’s play “Meet the Browns” on the 2nd and 3rd. Perry wrote the play ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ which was recently made into a movie and released in theatres last month. Perry is a recognized stage actor. He does not appear in this production, but he did write and produce “Meet the Browns.”
After “Meet the Browns” the Erwin Center will turn into a circus-like arena (though without the three rings) for the “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions. Circuses as we know them started as equestrian expositions. The expositions gradually incorporated tight rope walkers, jugglers and acrobats and became circuses. But the circus’ roots are in equestrian expositions, much like the Lipizzaner Stallion show on the 16th of this month. The “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions are highly trained performers. Originally bred as horses of war and the carriers of nobility, these stallions are incredibly strong and can perform leaps and feats that distinguish them from amongst all others.
After the Lipizzaner Stallions prance out of here, the Austin Wranglers hustle back in on the 17th to play against the Tampa Bay Storm. That same week the Erwin Center will be transformed into the Theatre once more for the Steven Curtis Chapman concert on the 23rd and for Bandorama on the 30th.
We hope to see you here this spring for one of our many fabulous events!
