Metallica Proves That
Metal Is Timeless
In the early 1980s Metallica brought the underground
sound of heavy metal music to the surface with the release of
Kill ‘Em All. Throughout the remainder of the decade,
the band’s sound grew stronger through their intense song
writing and playing style. After the loss of bassist Cliff Burton,
Metallica took a few years off. The band soon returned with
new bassist Jason Newsted.
The 1990s would bring Metallica’s music to a new audience.
In 1991 Metallica hit the big time with the release of Metallica:
The Black Album. This album helped the band crossover into the
mainstream. Despite early criticism from the public and critics,
Metallica was here to stay. Metallica: The Black Album sold
over seven million copies in the U.S, and hit the number one
spot on the charts. In 1996 the band released their follow-up
album Load. This album release introduced their fans to the
new Metallica. The new Metallica shed their long headbanger
hairstyles for a shorter alternative rock cut.
Metallica has proven that their music can stand the test of
time. Over twenty years has passed since their debut album and
Metallica continues to have a solid fan base. It is now 2004,
and the band has hit the road again on the Madly in Anger With
the World Tour.
Joining Metallica will be Boston-based band Godsmack. Formed
in 1996 and named after an Alice In Chain’s song, Godsmack
gained national popularity by touring with Ozzfest and the Black
Sabbath’s reunion tour.
