Have A World Of Fun With The Harlem Globetrotters

Mixing their impressive skills on the court with humorous hijinks, The Harlem Globetrotters have built a worldwide fan-base. As one of the most popular teams in the world, the Globetrotters have played over 20,000 games (a feat no other professional sports team has achieved) in over 117 countries.

The Globetrotters were formed in 1926 by Hall of Famer Abe Saperstein as a serious competitive team, but began working in light entertainment and comedic routines at their appearances in the 1930s and evolved into the Globetrotters of today. In previous years, the Globetrotters embarked on a College Tour playing some of the top college teams in the country, but recent NCAA legislation prevented the Globetrotters from playing this fall.

The new NCAA legislation won’t affect the Globetrotters from participating in the 2005 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) College All-Star Game. Since 2000, the Globetrotters have taken part in the men’s NCAA Final Four Weekend in the annual Globetrotters vs. College All-Star Game. So far, they are 4-1 with their only loss in 2002.

Recently, former Globetrotter, Lynette Woodard, was inducted into the prestigious Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. As the first woman to join an all-male professional basketball team, she quickly became one of the most popular players on the team. The team itself was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.
