Grammy Songstress Sarah McLachlan
Graces Austin
With six years between her critically acclaimed “Surfacing” and
her most recent effort “Afterglow,” Sarah
McLachlan emerges with revamped songwriting techniques and a fresh outlook
on life. Not a single song on “Afterglow” was written
on a guitar, a move that promises to leave listeners in a rich
and haunting euphoria. Parenthood has also changed McLachlan’s
writing process – the mother of young daughter India says
she has about two hours a day to focus on songwriting, a major
change to McLachlan’s near-hibernation when writing the
tracks on “Surfacing.”
In addition to her own success, McLachlan is the driving force
behind the girl-powered Lilith Fair. In just three years, Lilith
Fair, which included Austin favorites such as Patty Griffin,
Trish Murphy and Kelly Willis, raised more than $7 million
for charities.
