Simon & Garfunkel

Tuesday, July 6

Folk Icons Not So Silent Anymore

Legendary on-again, off-again duo Simon & Garfunkel will make an Austin stop at the Erwin Center, Tuesday, July 6 with their long awaited Old Friends Tour.

First known as Tom and Jerry, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel didn’t inflict immediate impact on the music industry. Acoustic folk music was neither trendy nor commercial in the 50s and the pair eventually split; Garfunkel returned to college and Simon went solo. In 1964, the two reconvened to record Wednesday Morning, 3AM. Once again, commercial success eluded them and the duo went their separate ways. But when producer Tom Wilson overdubbed “The Sound of Silence” with electric instrumentation, the song went No. 1 and Simon and Garfunkel quickly reunited.

After receiving numerous Grammys, including one for Album of the Year, Simon and Garfunkel broke up in 1970 due to artistic differences. Since then, the pair reunites to occasionally perform, such as opening the 2003 Grammy Awards where they were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Making a special appearance on the Old Friends Tour is one of the greatest pop rock-and-roll acts of all time, The Everly Brothers. Dominating both pop and country charts, The Everly Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

Now is the time to gather up friends, old and new, to celebrate Simon & Garfunkel’s triumphant return to the stage. Enjoy the Tuesday, July 6, 8PM performance at the Erwin Center in style with an exclusive VIP dinner before the concert.
