A Little Summer School Fun
As
a collegian, I attempted the crossword puzzle in the student newspaper
every single day. I would drag the poor puzzle from class to class,
sneaking it under my spiral and pretend to take notes when really
I was struggling with 35-down. While I don’t recall ever
finishing a puzzle by myself (particularly on Fridays), what kind
of editor would I be if I didn’t provide my fellow students
with some creative summer school release? So enjoy the June “games” edition
of Applause!
In addition to the word puzzles, the Erwin Center is your official
source for summer entertainment. There is truly something for
everyone, starting with June appearances by Alabama and George
Lopez. Say “farewell” to the legendary country group
as they embark on their “American Farewell Tour” June
25. Cheer yourself up the next day with California comedian George
Lopez.
Talk about a July to remember: Simon and Garfunkel on July 6,
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Circus on July 8-11,
and Sarah McLachlan on July 23. In the words of the great Dickie
V, “Are you kiddin’ me, baby?!” Folk icons,
death defying stunts and a Grammy-sensation in less than three
weeks is what I call a summer spectacular.
And August is the perfect time to make nice with your little sister
and your mom with 70’s rock band Boston and teen pop-princess
Hilary Duff coming in August. You can claim to your buddies your
mom is MAKING you take her and the sis’…no one will
ever know!
For your back-to-school listening pleasure, Metallica and Incubus
will be sure to rock you back into exam mode. Okay, okay, nothing
can really motivate any student back into cramming for tests…
