Simon & Garfunkel

Tuesday, July 6

Together Again

Let’s take a minute to reflect on the great duos of our time: Ben and Jerry, Brad and Jen, UT and the Holiday Bowl. However, I can’t think of one pair that comes close to the successful longevity of Simon & Garfunkel.

Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon began harmonizing at age 13 and “arguing by age 14,” said Simon recently at a Toronto concert. The two describe the Old Friends Tour as the 50th anniversary of their friendship, but the 47th anniversary of their arguing.

The reviews for the Old Friends tour have been stellar. The set list consists mostly of album material produced between 1964 and 1970: “Wednesday Morning, 3 a.m.” (1964), “Sounds of Silence” (1965), “Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme” (1966), “Bookends” (1968) and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (1970).

As a duo, Simon & Garfunkel have sold more than 40 million albums in the United States and are the recipients of five Grammy Awards. In 1990, the twosome was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Even though Simon & Garfunkel formally split in 1970, they get together for the occasional jam session, i.e. performing at the Grammys to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award or for a series of concerts at Madison Square Garden.

Joining Simon & Garfunkel’s reunion tour are The Everly Brothers. Known for their classic 50s hits “Wake up Little Susie,” “Dreams,” “Bye Bye Love,” and “When Will I be Loved,” Don and Phil Everly have had their fair share of stylistic differences. The brothers split in 1973 and went their separate ways for nearly 10 years. Even after reuniting in 1993, Don and Phil rarely spoke offstage, traveled separately and arrived at shows in separate cars.

Now is the time to gather up friends, old and new, to celebrate Simon & Garfunkel’s triumphant return to the stage. Enjoy the Tuesday, July 6, 8PM performance at the Erwin Center in style with an exclusive VIP dinner before the concert.

Two hours before Simon & Garfunkel take the stage we will open our doors to dinner guests for a truly special evening. From 6PM-8PM guests will be treated to a delicious buffet-style dinner, a cash bar and a friendly staff waiting to serve you. And since we mail your tickets and parking pass, there is no waiting in lines or searching for parking.
