SESAME STREET LIVE "OUT OF THIS WORLD"

February 12-15

A UFO has Landed on Sesame Street

Sesame Street Live returns to the Erwin Center February 12-15 with their latest production, “Out of this World.” In this adventure a spaceship lands on Sesame Street and the colorful and fun-loving neighborhood residents are there to teach the Martians about Earth. The show includes the popular segments “Elmo’s World” and “Journey to Ernie” and songs “Sunny Days,” “The Hokey-Pokey,” “Disco Duck” and “We Are Family.” This new production emphasizes that despite cultural and geographic differences, we all share common characteristics.

So which of your favorite characters will be welcoming Martians to Planet Earth? Let’s take a minute and learn a little more about some of the characters that call Sesame Street home.

Big Bird, the curious, congenial 8-foot bird, enjoys roller-skating, drawing pictures and drinking birdseed milkshakes. The Bird is the most worldly of the neighborhood characters, having visited the White House and traveling to China twice. Bert and Ernie are the best of friends and prove that opposites really do attract. Bert, the more mature and analytical of the two, collects bottle caps and paper clips, loves his pet pigeon Bernice, and can often be found watching weather reports on TV while eating oatmeal. Ernie is the more playful companion and loves tricking his “old buddy” Bert and playing with his favorite toy, Rubber Duckie. Elmo has become the most popular and identifiable character of Sesame Street. This 3-year-old likes to do anything and everything and is constantly asking who, what, when, where and most of all “why?” Elmo’s best friend is Zoe, a 3-year-old girl monster. Zoe is energetic and giggly, and likes to play with her doll, Mimi, and collect necklaces, bracelets and barrettes. Oscar is the grouchy neighbor, and with good reason. He lives in a trashcan! A few of his favorite things include: rainy days, standing in line, anchovy milkshakes and collecting rotten trash. And who could forget the Cookie Monster? This verbally challenged, lovable and silly monster loves reading “The Joys of Eating” and eating everything he can find. He speaks simply and directly and can often be heard repeating, “Me want cookie!” By far the oldest resident of Sesame Street is The Count. At 1,832,647 this guy has been counting for a really long time! He loves to count anything around and is a bilingual counter, counting in English and Spanish. Grover is a friendly 4-year-old. This little fur ball often gets himself into trouble by acting compulsively and rushing into situations. He enjoys running up and down stairs and likes to wear his “Super Grover” costume. Rosita is another bilingual Sesame Street resident. Rosita, whose full name is Rosita La Monstrua de Las Cuevas (The Monster of the Caves), is from Mexico and likes to teach Spanish to her friends. She often mixes words from English and Spanish when speaking.

These guys along with their pals, Terry, Baby Bear, Telly, Prairie Dawn, Grungetta, Honker, and the Yup-Yups are coming to the Erwin Center to give lessons about what we all have in common, regardless of where we live.

Sesame Street Live has been touring since 1980. The production travels throughout the world entertaining all ages and teaching children fundamental educational and social skills. The multi-million dollar production consists of Broadway-quality scripts, music, set design and construction, lighting and costumes.
