UT Opera Presents: The Old Majestic
by Robert Xavier Rodriguez
April 23, 25, 30, May 2, 2004
McCullough Theatre

Set backstage at San Antonio's famous Majestic Theatre, this heartwarming opera features a troupe of vaudeville actors who lament the end of an era, and the dawn of the age of film. The Old Majestic bubbles over with charm and wit, and this presentation by the UT PAC and UT Opera Theatre will mark the first staged production of the work.

San Antonio native, Robert Xavier Rodriguez's poignant opera includes actual routines and quotes from vaudeville performers who must decide whether to move on with their lives or go down with the ship. The esteemed composer will be in Austin to attend the production.

42nd Street
Tuesday - Sunday, May 25-30, 2004
Bass Concert Hall

42nd Street is back in a great big smiling, sparkling, tapping, back-flipping production that earned the 2001 Tony Award ® for Best Musical Revival. Famous songs include "Lullaby of Broadway," "We're in the Money," "Shuffle off to Buffalo," "Keep Young and Beautiful," "I Only Have Eyes for You," and more. And the spectacular title number, danced
down a flight of steps that light up as brightly as the faces of the cast.
